Women’s Basketball names five to All-ASC teams; Okoye named Defensive Player of the Year

BELTON, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball earned five All-American Southwest Conference distinctions, released Wednesday.

Rachel Okoye was named Defensive Player of the Year, First Team and All-Defensive Team. Okoye, a guard from Houston, played in 24 games for the Cru this season. She totaled 283 points with an 11.8 points per game average. Okoye also added 150 rebounds this season, 92 defensive, averaging 6.3 boards per game. She was also the team leader in steals (66) and assists (75), adding seven total blocks.

Josie Bruder was named Second Team All-ASC. Bruder, a forward from Plano, played in 23 games, scoring 11.5 points per contest. She brought down 105 total rebounds, adding 29 steals, 35 assists and a team-high 10 blocks. Bruder also led the team in three-pointers made with 46 this season.

Natalia Galvan was named to the All-Freshman team. A freshman guard from Hearne, Galvan played in 25 games making 11 starts in her collegiate debut. She averaged 6.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, adding 30 assists and 30 steals on the year. Galvan also tallied nine blocks in 525 minutes played.

UMHB finished the season in the American Southwest Conference Semifinals.
