SPOKANE, Wash. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team opened its Washington trip with a 5-0 win at Whitworth Friday afternoon in Spokane. The win improved the Cru to 3-0 on the season.
UMHB needed just two shots to find the back of Whitworth's net and take a 1-0 lead.
Eric Ortiz scored on a double assist from
Owen Pryor and
Grayson Bowler in the 12
th minute, putting the Cru on top.
Billy Yonce added an insurance goal in the 20
th minute, flicking a shot over the Whitworth goalkeeper after a pass from
Jesus Vasquez. The Cru got more insurance off an own goal from Whitworth in the 42
nd minute, putting UMHB up 3-0 at the half.
Martin Valdes added another Crusader score in the 61
st minute, hitting a shot into the lower left side.
Price Andrews added the Cru's final score, converting a penalty kick for the 5-0 win.
UMHB put up 23 shots in the contest with
Blake Dildy recording a team-high four. Four other Crusaders added three shots each with Valdes, Yonce, Dildy and
Cade Saylor all putting two shots on frame. The Crusader defense gave up just six shots in the contest and did not allow a single shot on frame.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 12
th in a 3 p.m. (PT)/5 p.m. (CT) match at Whitman College in Spokane.
