MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split the final day of action in Memphis, falling 3-0 to Hendrix before closing the week with a 3-0 win over Ozarks.
UMHB took a 4-1 lead early in the first set with Hendrix and led by as many as six but the Warriors answered with a 9-1 run to take the lead at 14-12. The set played back-and-forth from there with Hendrix ending the set with a 3-1 series to seal the 25-21 win.
The Cru used a 6-0 run halfway through the second set to go up 16-10 but the Warriors responded again, constructing a 10-1 run to go up 20-17. UMHB retaliated with six consecutive points for a 23-20 lead but Hendrix was persistent, closing the set on a 5-0 series to seal the 25-23 second-set win. The Warriors rolled in the third, cruising to a 25-12 win to seal the 3-0 victory.
Lilli Sandoval led the Cru with eight kills while
Ava Ribakovs and
Natalie Hughes each added five. UMHB totaled 27 kills in the contest while Ribakovs led with 11 assists. Defensively,
Angie Garcia and Ribakovs each tallied 11 digs with
Kaysen Miller adding 10.
The Cru jumped to a 10-5 first-set lead against Ozarks and used a 9-0 and 6-0 run to put the Eagles away 25-9. UMHB built a 6-1 run halfway through the second set to take a two-point lead before a 5-0 run put them ahead by five. The Cru closed the set on a 6-1 run, taking the win at 25-16. UMHB used an early 8-0 run in the third to take a 12-3 lead and held the advantage, sealing the sweep with a 25-13 win.
Addison Yates led the Cru with eight kills while
Catey Mills, Ribakovs and
Sifa Olang each added six.
Addison Lundquist had a team-high 15 assists with Ribakovs adding 14. Ribakovs also led defensively with 14 digs, followed by
Baylee Mobley with 10.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, September 17
th in a 6 p.m. contest at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
