SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team sealed a 4-1 win against Texas Lutheran University Thursday evening in Seguin.
The first set began with TLU taking the first three points before the Cru responded with a kill from Ava Ribakovs. The two teams exchange points before the Cru takes their first lead in the set with four kills in a row, making the score 10-10. The Cru and the Bulldogs battle it out before the Cru seals the 25-18 win with crucial kills from Kaysen Miller and Lilli Sandoval.
TLU came out swinging in the second set, taking a 0-7 lead. The Cru fought back with major kills from Lilli Sandoval and Allie Thompson, bringing the score to 7-8. The Bulldogs continued to pull away from the Cru, capturing the second set win 18-25.
The third set began with the Cru taking a major lead of 6-1 with the help of three kills from Ava Ribakovs. The Bulldogs answer with three points in a row to make the score 6-4. The two teams battled point for point throughout the set, having no lead larger than four points. With the help of a kill from Natalie Hughes, the Cru secured the third set win 25-23.
The fourth set began with both teams exchanging point for point before the Cru took a four-point lead making the score 8-3. The Bulldogs tried to battle back, but the Cru maintained a minimum lead of four points throughout the set. Coming down the stretch two kills by Allie Thompson sealed the deal for the Cru winning the fourth set 25-17.
Allie Thompson led the Cru with 11 kills, while Ava Ribakovs had 10 kills. Chloe Brandty tallied 23 assists, and Ava Ribakovs had 14 assists. Angie Garcia led the Cru with 17 digs, while Ava Ribakovs added 14 digs, Lilli Sandoval and Chloe Brandt added 10 digs. Angie Garcia had three service aces while Allie Thompson had four blocks.
UMHB returns to action Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:00 p.m. against Schreiner University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
