Men’s soccer takes down Centenary

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 4-1 victory against Centenary College Saturday night in Belton. This win improves the Cru's record to 2-0 on the season.

The Cru came out firing in the first half with shots in the first two minutes before Martin Valdes scored in the 4th minute with an assist from Alex Bethke. The Cru continued their offensive dominance, totalling 14 shots in the first half.

Two minutes into the second half the Cru was awarded a penalty kick with Billy Yonce extending the lead to 2-0. Valdes added his second goal of the night in the 50th minute, extending the lead to three. Zane Webb added another goal for the Cru in the 74th minute before Centenary found the net, ending the contest in a 4-1 UMHB win. 

Martin Valdes led the Cru with three shots on goal and two goals. The Cru put 15 out of 31 shots on frame in the contest and limited Centenary to just seven total shots and only five on frame. Hughston Taggart earned the win in the net, tallying four saves.

The Cru returns to action Friday, September 11th, at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.
