Game Two Box Score

Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not generate enough offense to overcome early deficits in both games as the Cru was swept in a doubleheader by U.T.-Tyler Monday night in Tyler. UMHB fell 7-1 and 11-3 to drop to 1-2 overall on the season. The Patriots are now 2-0 to start the year.

U.T.-Tyler scored two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in a 7-1 game one victory. The Patriots put together an infield single, a walk and an error to score those two runs without hitting the ball out of the infield. The lead would grow to 3-0 before UMHB manufactured its run in the top of the fourth. Tori Gomez led off with a walk, moved up on a sacrifice and wild pitch and then scored on Hannah White's groundout to cut it to 3-1. U.T.-Tyler scored two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach. Rebekah Ragsdale took the loss for the Cru to drop to 1-1. She gave up nine hits and three earned runs in four and two-thirds innings. UMHB managed just three hits, from three different players in the loss.

The Patriots led 9-1 after two innings and then coasted to an 11-3 victory in game two. U.T.-Tyler scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. UMHB answered with a run in the top of the second on Caitlin Wells' RBI fielder's choice. But the Patriots broke the game open with six unearned runs in the bottom of that frame. Caitlin Bollier scored on an error and White added an RBI double in the top of the third to close the gap to 9-3, but U.T.-Tyler added two more in the bottom of the fourth to end the game on the run rule. White went 3-3 for the Cru and Ashton Feight added two more hits. Ariel Kemmerer took the loss for UMHB to drop to 0-1 on the season.

UMHB will now return home to host East Texas Baptist for a 4:00 PM doubleheader on Thursday in the 2012 home opener. The Cru will then host Louisiana College for a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
