Game Two Box Score

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team grabbed early leads in both games and then never looked back as the Cru swept a doubleheader from Texas Lutheran University Friday evening in Belton. UMHB won game one 5-1 and took game two 5-2 to improve to 13-8 overall and 9-1 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. The Bulldogs fall to 9-11 overall and 4-6 in the ASC West with the two losses.

UMHB took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and then cruised to a 5-1 win in game one. Hannah White singled home two runs and came around to score on Janie Neyland's single. Caitlin Bollier's sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third before TLU put a run on the board in the top of the fourth. The Cru added an insurance run on Camryn Bintz's RBI single in the fifth. Rebekah Ragsdale threw a complete-game, six-hitter for UMHB to improve to 6-4. She struck out eight and walked just one. White had three hits for the Cru and Neyland and Caitlin Wells added two hits apiece.

UMHB used a four-run first inning to take control of game two and then held on for a 5-2 victory. Ashton Feight's bases loaded triple made it 3-0 UMHB and Feight scored on a ground ball to make it 4-0. The Cru added a run on Feight sacrifice attempt in the third to make it 5-0. Texas Lutheran left the bases loaded in the fifth when a Bulldog base-runner ran into Kaysie Creech on an infield popup to end a scoring threat. The Bulldogs scored two in the top of the sixth before White came on to strike out the potential tying run. She then set TLU down in order in the top of the seventh to nail down her second save of the season. Ariel Kemmerer moved to 5-1 after not giving up an earned run in five and two-thirds innings of work. Feight had four RBI for the Cru. Sarah Carmichael took the loss for TLU despite holding UMHB to just three hits in the game.

The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow at Dee Dillon Field. UMHB will then play a non-conference doubleheader against Pacific Lutheran in Tyler next Tuesday.
