Game Two Box Score

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team used a dominating offensive performance to win game one but could not overcome defensive lapses in game two as the Cru split a doubleheader with Texas Lutheran University Saturday in Belton. UMHB won game one 8-0 before falling 7-3 in game two. The Cru is now 14-9 overall and 10-2 in American Southwest Conference West Division play following the split. Texas Lutheran moves to 10-12 overall and 5-7 in the ASC West on the season.

UMHB exploded for eight runs in the third and fourth innings to take an 8-0 win in game one. The game was scoreless until the Cru put three on the board in the bottom of the third. Caitlin Bollier and Ashton Feight had RBI singles and Hannah White added an RBI grounder. UMHB then put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning. Kaysie Creech scored the opening run on an error and White did the rest with a grand slam to make it 8-0. Rebekah Ragsdale set the Bulldogs down in order in the top of the fifth to end the game on the run rule. Ragsdale improved to 7-4 with a five-hit shutout. White drove in five runs for UMHB in the victory.

The Cru defense fell apart in the middle innings of Texas Lutheran's 7-3 win in game two. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before White led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer to tie the game. TLU retook the lead in the top of the third with an unearned run, but Bollier tied it again with an RBI double in the bottom of the third. TLU bunched two hits around a Cru three-base throwing error to score two more unearned runs in the fifth to grab a 4-2 lead. UMHB committed two more errors in the fifth, leading to three unearned runs as the Bulldogs stretched the lead to 7-2. Creech doubled and score on Kirstie Curry's groundout in the bottom of the seventh, but that's as close as the Cru would get. Ariel Kemmerer took the loss for UMHB despite allowing just one earned run. Caitlin Wells and Camryn Bintz had two hits apiece for the Cru in that loss.

The Cru will travel to Tyler on Monday to take on Pacific Lutheran University in a non-conference doubleheader. UMHB will then return to ASC West Division play with a four-game series at Sul Ross State next weekend in Alpine.
