Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team made the most of its first day of home conference play of the season as the Cru swept two American Southwest Conference matches Friday afternoon in Belton. UMHB opened the day with a 3-1 victory over East Texas Baptist University before topping LeTourneau University 3-0 to close out the day.
UMHB bounced back from an opening set loss to record a 14-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-12 win over ETBU.
Katrina Kastmo led the Cru with 12 kills and
Lauren Powell added 11 more.
Kendall Pye recorded 26 assists and
Shelby Prather chipped in 16.
Kendra Feldmann topped the team with 22 digs as four players reached double figures. UMHB hit .126 as a team, posted six service aces and totaled 10 team blocks in the win.
The Cru then controlled the match from the beginning in a 25-20, 25-9, 25-20 win over LeTourneau University.
Bianca Patterson had a team-high 11 kills and hit .333. Pye had 22 assists and Prather had 19. Feldmann recorded 18 digs and Pye chipped in 11. The Cru hit .245 as a team and held the Yellowjackets to an .079 hitting percentage.
Cheyenne Dowdey totaled 11 blocks in the two matches and moved to within three of the UMHB single-season record.
The Cru is now 24-5 overall and 13-3 in ASC play on the season following Friday's sweep. The 24 victories are a new NCAA Division III era single-season record, breaking the previous mark of 22 set last year. UMHB will close out conference play with two more home matches on Saturday. The Cru will face Mississippi College at 10:00 AM before taking on U.T.-Tyler in a 2:00 PM start at the Mayborn Campus Center.
