Owings Mills, Maryland – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team gave up the first seven points of the game and never recovered in an 85-65 loss to Gwynedd Mercy Saturday evening in Maryland. The loss drops the Cru to 1-2 on the season. The Griffins improve to 3-1 on the year with the victory. The game was part of the Hoopsville Invitational Tournament hosted by Stevenson University.
Gwynedd Mercy opened the game with a 7-0 run. UMHB fought back to take a 15-13 lead with 13:04 remaining in the first half. The Griffins pushed the lead to as many as 14 points before settling for a 42-30 halftime lead. The lead would grow to as many as 29 points in the second half as the Griffins coasted to the victory.
Kevin Waller led the Cru with 13 points and
Russell Green added 12 more.
Jerard Graham had nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. UMHB shot 40 per cent from the field but hit just 5-16 from three-point range. The Cru did out rebound the Griffins 40-37 in the loss.
Julian Hyden had a game-high 27 points and hit 4-8 from three-point range to lead the Griffins. Arron Goodman added 19 points and Brian Hennessey hit 5-9 from beyond the arc to finish with 17 points. Gwynedd Mercy shot 14-32 from three-point range and hit 48 per cent from the field as a team.
UMHB will now have a week off before returning home for the 2014-15 home opener on Monday, December 1
st. The Cru will welcome Southwestern University to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 7:00 PM start.
