ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team beat McMurry University 3-1 Saturday night in Abilene, advancing to 6-4-1 on the season while the War Hawks fell to 1-11-1.
McMurry gained an early advantage in the 36
th minute with a goal from Joshua Erwin. The War Hawks held that lead until the 70
th minute when
Ben Hammonds converted a penalty kick for the equalizer.
Sean Diamond scored next, finding the back of the net in the 72
nd minute off a
McKenna Cook assist for a 2-1 UMHB lead.
Julio Mar scored next in the 80
th minute, giving the Cru the 3-1 victory.
UMHB totaled 20 shots, led by
Case Carnes with 5 and Hammonds with four. Hammonds also led the Cru putting three shots on goal while Carnes and Cook each added two.
Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the net for the Cru, allowing one goal and saving three in 90 minutes of play. UMHB outshot the War Hawks 20-6 and took eight corner kicks to McMurry's one.
The Cru continues play Friday, October 23
