Men’s Soccer edges Hardin-Simmons in ASC Tournament opener

TYLER, Texas – No. 5 seed University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over No. 4 seed Hardin-Simmons University  in the 2015 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament despite an overnight lightning delay. The Cru improved to 8-4-3 on the season and will advance in tournament play.
 
The Cru began the game on Thursday, November 5th at 4 p.m. on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler. Logan Keeler scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute to put the Cru up 1-0 before the game was delayed due to lightning in the 53rd minute. The teams were not able to complete the match, suspending competition until Friday, November 6th. UMHB resumed play from the point of stoppage and limited the Cowboys to two shots, earning the 1-0 win.
 
Keeler led the Cru with three shots followed by Ben Hammonds, McKenna Cook and Sean Diamond with two. UMHB outshot the Cowboys 13-5 in the match, putting seven shots on goal to Hardin-Simmons' one. Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the goal for the Cru, making one save in the shutout match.  Michael Vargas took the loss, allowing one goal with five saves.
 
UMHB will advance to face No. 1 seed and tournament-host University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday, November 7th at 11 a.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of No. 2 seed University of Texas at Dallas and No. 3 seed Concordia Texas in the championship match on Sunday, November 8th at 1 p.m. Hardin-Simmons ends its season at 8-6-2 and made its 17th appearance in the ASC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
