RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split the final day of competition at the 2015 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, falling 3-0 to the University of Texas at Dallas in the 2015 championship match. The loss ends the Cru's season at 19-12 as the Comets improved to 30-2 on the season.
UMHB opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of Concordia Texas. The Cru took the match 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 to advance to the tournament championship match.
Natasha Evans led the Cru with 10 kills while
Shelby Russell added nine and
Sydney Stolz had nine.
Shelby Prather led UMHB with 32 assists while Russell added four service aces. Prather led UMHB's defense with nine digs, followed by Evans and
Jordan Yates with eight. At the net, Stolz and
Cheyenne Dowdey led the Cru with five blocks each. UMHB totaled 41 kills on 95 total attacks with 10 errors while the Tornados had 33 kills on 99 total attacks with 18 errors.
The win against the Tornados advanced the Cru to the championship match against East Division No. 1 seed U.T.-Dallas and No. 15 U.T.-Dallas. The Cru came out strong but fell in three to the Comets 25-10, 25-19, 25-18. Russell led the Cru with 12 kills while Voskuil added 10. Prather led with 27 assists as UMHB hit 34 kills on 23 errors with 114 total attacks. Defensively, Evans led the Cur with 16 digs while Yates added 10. The Comets hit 43 kills with 107 total attacks and nine errors.
UMHB graduates four-year seniors
Cheyenne Dowdey and
Shelby Prather from the program. Dowdey leads the ASC in career blocks, block assists and solo blocks while Prather was a four-year starter at setter for UMHB. Prather and
Abby Voskuil were also named to the ASC Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team. The University of Texas at Dallas earns the league's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships. The championship bracket will be released on Monday, November 9
