SHERMAN, Texas. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged the 2015 season opener 1-0 over Austin College Tuesday afternoon in Sherman. The Cru opens the season at 1-0 while the Roos open at 0-1.
The Cru grabbed an early lead in the 28
th minute with a goal from
Jorge Marquez assisted by
Case Carnes. Neither team was able to score again, giving UMHB the 1-0 victory. UMHB outshot the Roos 18-10 in the match, led by Marquez with four and
Logan Keeler,
McKenna Cook and
Ben Hammonds with three each. Marquez, Keeler and Hammonds each recorded a team-high two shots on goal.
Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the net for the Cru, recording a shutout victory with three saves.
UMHB returns to action with a road trip to Tacoma, Wash. The Cru will open the trip on Thursday, September 10
th in a 2 p.m. match against Whitworth University.
