Volleyball drops dual matches at Colorado College Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team dropped two matches Saturday in the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs. The losses dropped the Cru to 3-5 on the season while Chapman University improved to 3-2 and Colorado College moved to 8-0.
 
UMHB dropped the first match of the day 19-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-23 to Chapman University. Cheyenne Dowdey led the Cru with 11 kills while Maddie Frerich and Shelby Russell each added 10. Shelby Prather recorded a team-high 27 assists followed by Natasha Evans with nine. Defensively, Prather and Russell led the Cru with 12 digs while Abby Voskuil recorded 11. Frerich led the Cru with six blocks, followed by Dowdey and Russell with four each. UMHB totaled 44 kills on 155 total attacks with 18 errors while Chapman had 68 kills on 164 total attacks with 28 attack errors.
 
The Cru then faced No. 13 Colorado College, falling 25-16, 25-18, 25-23 to the Tigers. Russell led the Cru with 12 kills while Voskuil added eight and Frerich had seven. Prather again led the Cru with 33 assists. On the Crusader defense, Jordan Yates recorded a team-high 13 digs followed by Prather with 11. Dowdey led the defense at the net, recording three solo blocks and two block assists. UMHB totaled 36 kills on 116 total attacks with 19 errors while Colorado College had 50 kills on 122 total attacks with 16 errors.
 
The Cru continues play Friday, September 18th in a 7 p.m. American Southwest Conference match at Concordia University Texas in Austin.
