Men’s Soccer edged by Pacific Lutheran

TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team was edged 2-1 by Pacific Lutheran University Sunday afternoon in Tacoma. The loss dropped the Cru to 2-2 on the season while Pacific Lutheran improves to 3-2 overall.
 
UMHB got on the board first when Ben Hammonds converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute of play to give the Cru a 1-0 lead. UMHB held that lead until the 68th minute when Pacific Lutheran's Eddie Na scores the equalizer off an assist from Joe Sammartino. The game remained tied after regulation and went into overtime when Diego Aceves scored the go-ahead off Bennett Bugbee in the 92nd minute to give the Lutes the 2-1 win.
 
McKenna Cook led the Cru with three shots while Hammonds added two. Javier Zaragoza played the entire game in the goal for the Cru, allowing two goals and making seven saves. UMHB totaled eight shots to the Lutes' 23. Both teams took six corner kicks in the match with Pacific Lutheran recording the only overtime shots.
 
UMHB continues play Thursday, September 17th in a 7 p.m. American Southwest Conference match at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss. The Cru returns home September 25th in a 7 p.m. game against the University of Texas at Dallas at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
