Men’s Soccer ties undefeated Belhaven 1-1

JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team tied Belhaven University 1-1 Thursday night in Jackson. With the tie, UMHB moved to 2-2-1 while the Blazers went to 3-0-1.
 
Lucas Talaveira-Befi scored first for the Blazers, finding the back of the net off an assist from Nicolas Cornejo in the 54th minute. Belhaven held that lead until the 75th minute when Ben Hammonds successfully converted a penalty kick for the equalizer and send the match into a 1-1 tie. The game remained tied after regulation and neither team was able to score in overtime, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
 
Belhaven outshot the Cru 26-14 in the match, putting nine shots on goal to the Cru's seven. Javier Zaragoza played all 110 minutes in goal for UMHB, recording eight saves with one goal allowed. Jorge Marquez led the Cru with five shots while McKenna Cook added four and five other Crusaders had one.
 
UMHB continues play Saturday, September 19th in a 4 p.m. match at Louisiana College in Pineville, La.
