Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team made a late comeback bid but the rally fell just short in a 2-1 loss to U.T.-Dallas Friday night in Belton. The Cru falls to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play. The Comets improve to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the ASC with the victory.
U.T.-Dallas jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead. Isaac Urcuyo scored off an assist from Connor Crabtree in the 29th minute. Jordan Rubel then added a header off an assist from Kevin Whatley just 2:42 before halftime. The Cru finally cut into the lead when Jorge Marquez scored off Colby Case's assist in the 81st minute. UMHB had several more good scoring chances in the final minutes, but Comet goalkeeper Joseph Weber turned them aside.
Javier Zaragoza had two saves in goal for UMHB while Weber finished with three saves. UTD outshot the Cru 13-9 and held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Cru will continue its home stand with another conference match on Saturday. UMHB will host Howard Payne for a 7:00 PM start at the Cru Soccer Fields.
