TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over the University of Texas at Tyler Saturday night in Tyler. The win improved UMHB to 11-5-1 on the season and 7-2-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Patriots fell to 9-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in league play.
Lucas Pereira gave the Patriots a lead in the 23
rd minute, scoring off an assist from Erik Macias for a 1-0 UTT advantage.
Case Carnes responded for UMHB in the 56
th minute, converting a penalty kick to even the game at 1-1.
Marcelo Gaitan then scored the game-winning goal in the 74
th minute with
Steven Dang adding an insurance goal at the 83 minute mark to give the Cru a 3-1 win.
Carnes led UMHB with six shots while Gaitan,
McKenna Cook and
Daniel Santa each added two. UMHB totaled 18 shots with six on goal while the Patriots had 10 shots with two on goal.
Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the goal for the Cru, allowing one goal with one save. John McGuffin and Ryan Dewalt split time in goal for the Patriots with McGuffin making three saves. UMHB took five corner kicks to the Patriots' three.
The Cru will continue action in the 2016 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament as the overall No. 3 seed. UMHB opens the tournament on Thursday, November 3
rd with an 8 p.m. match against the Patriots on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas.
