ALPINE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-1 road win over Sul Ross State University Friday evening in Alpine. The win improved the Cru to 12-5 on the season and 6-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 2-16 overall and 1-7 in league play.
UMHB opened the match with a dominating 25-9 first-set victory. The Lobos responded, taking the second set 25-21 to even the match at one set each. UMHB then took the next two in order, 25-22, 25-17 for the 3-1 match victory.
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 13 kills followed by Frerich with 12.
Natasha Evans had a match-high 43 assists as UMHB hit 50 kills on 142 attacks for a .183 hitting percentage. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 20 digs followed by
Jordan Yates with 17 and Voskuil with 14. Frerich led the Cru with six blocks followed by
Sarah Paolini with five as UMHB had a team-total 12 blocks in the contest. Sul Ross State's Candice Hugi led the Lobos with 11 kills as Sul Ross State hit 36 kills on 147 total attacks for a .027 hitting percentage.
UMHB continues play Saturday, October 8
th in a 2 p.m. match at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. The Cru then returns home on Tuesday, October 11
th in a 6 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
