Women's Soccer edged by No. 20 Hardin-Simmons

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team was edged 1-0 by No. 20 Hardin-Simmons University Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cowgirls to 11-1-0 on the season and 7-0-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cru fell to 8-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in league play.
 
Hardin-Simmons scored the lone goal of the contest in the 11th minute when Josey Meyer finished a cross from Kami Jones for a 1-0 Cowgirl lead. UMHB limited the Cowgirls to just five shots in the first half and defended a nine-shot offensive performance by Hardin-Simmons in the second. Goalkeeper Courtney Craig made nine saves in the goal for UMHB as the Cru held the Cowgirls to their lowest-scoring contest against a conference opponent this season.
 
Sarah Rempe led UMHB with two shots while three other Crusaders added one. Kenne Kessler led the Cowgirls with three shots en route to a team-total 14. Craig took the loss in the net for UMHB while Casey Carrillo earned the win for the Cowgirls, making one save in a full 90 minutes of action.
 
UMHB will return to action Thursday, October 13th in a 4 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
