BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team topped Belhaven University 68-53 Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved UMHB to 5-2 on the season while the Blazers fell to 2-3.
UMHB pulled away with an 8-4 run in the first quarter to lead the Blazers 16-12 after ten minutes of play and did not trail again. The Cru held a 46-39 halftime advantage and led by as many as 16 points in the second half, earning the 68-53 win.
Kendall Rollins led UMHB with 16 points followed by
Kendra Wynn with 11 and
Alicia Blackwell with nine. UMHB shot 31.1 percent in the contest, 16.7 percent from beyond the arc and 73.1 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, Blackwell led the Cru with 10 rebounds followed by Wynn with nine. UMHB out-rebounded the Blazers 56-49, bringing down 32 defensive boards. Wynn led UMHB with three blocks and three steals while Rollins also added three steals.
Candler Gregory led the Blazers with 17 points followed by Sierra Pittman with nine. Belhaven shot 27.7 percent in the contest, 16.7 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Blazers totaled 10 assists and five steals.
UMHB returns to action against Rust College on Saturday, December 10
th . That game is tentatively scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
