SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Trinity University 3-2 Sunday night in San Antonio, advancing to the third round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.

Case Carnes opened scoring in the contest, netting a pass from Jason Goodin for a 1-0 UMHB lead in the 15th minute. Trinity's Brady Johnston responded for the Tigers in the 18th minute, scoring off a double-assist from Austin Michaelis and Quentin Van Der Lee. Van Der Lee added one more goal for the Tigers in the 24th minute, scoring off a corner kick from Jacob Hallenger. UMHB then added back-to-back goals in the 26th and 27th minutes for the 3-2 win. Steven Dang scored first, heading in a free kick from Caleb Vandergriff to even the game at two. Julio Mar followed that with the game-winning goal, one-touching a double-assist from Daniel Santa and Case Carnes into the far right side of the net for the 3-2 UMHB advantage.
 
UMHB's defense fought off 13 second-half shots to preserve the 3-2 win. Trinity outshot the Cru 25-12 in the match, putting 12 shots on goal to the Cru's five.  Carnes led the Cru with three shots while several other Crusaders added two each. Bryce Eichhorn earned the win in the net for UMHB, allowing two goals with nine saves in the match. Blake Lieberman took the loss for the Tigers, allowing three goals and making two saves.
 
UMHB returns to action in the third round of the NCAA Championship Tournament, facing Emory University on Friday, November 17th. The University of Chicago earned the right to host Sectionals. The Maroons will host Calvin College, Emory and UMHB in the third and quaterfinal rounds of the tournament. Additional information on that game will be posted at cruathletics.com once available.  The Cru continues their season at 17-2-0 while the Tigers end at 21-2-0.
