JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Belhaven University with 21 seconds left in regulation to take a 2-1 win over the Blazers Saturday afternoon. The win improved the Cru to 9-1 on the season and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Blazers fell to 1-5-4 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.
Martin Lopez opened scoring for the Cru, converting a penalty kick in the 23
rd minute for a 1-0 Cru lead. UMHB held that lead until the 51
st minute when Mateus Holanda scored the equalizer for the Blazers, evening the game at 1-1.
Case Carnes followed that, converting a penalty kick with 21 seconds left in regulation to put the Cru up 2-1.
UMHB totaled seven shots in the contest, putting five on goal. Belhaven recorded eight shots with four on goal.
Bryce Eichhorn earned the win in the goal for UMHB, playing the full 90-minute contest with one goal allowed and three saves. Thomas Blake took the loss for the Blazers, allowing two goals and making three saves.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 5
th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Howard Payne University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
