BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Howard Payne University Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-1 on the season and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Case Carnes gave the Cru a lead in the 15
th minute, ripping a shot from 40-yards out for the 1-0 lead.
Amani Colbert opened the second half with an insurance goal, scoring in the 47
th minute off an assist from
Luke Lopez. UMHB allowed only two shots in the second half to secure the 2-0 win.
Julio Mar,
Martin Lopez and
Jose Rodriguez led the Cru with two shots each. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 13-4 in the contest, putting eight shots on goal and limited the Yellow Jackets to just two.
Bryce Eichhorn earned the win in the goal for UMHB, making a big save off a spin ball in the second half to preserve the two-goal lead. Nicholas Panameno took the loss for Howard Payne, allowing two goals with five saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 7
th in a 7:30 p.m. match against UT Dallas at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
