BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team beat the University of Texas at Dallas 2-1 in an overtime match Saturday night in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 11-1 on the season and 8-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets fell to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in league play. UMHB's win also set a new ASC record for consecutive wins (11) in a season.
Cole Trevor-Wilson put the Comets on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal after a one-on-one situation for a 1-0 UTD lead. UMHB responded 33 seconds later when
Amani Colbert crossed a ball in to
Case Carnes for the equalizer. Neither team was able to score again in regulation, sending the contest into overtime. UMHB sealed the win in the 94
th minute when
Caleb Almanza hit a ball in to
Caleb Vandergriff who flicked a header over the goalkeeper for the 2-1 victory.
Case Carnes led the Cru with three shots followed by Vandergriff,
Jason Goodin and
Seth Neveloff with two each. UMHB outshot the Comets 15-6 in the contest, putting seven shots on goal.
Bryce Eichhorn earned the win for the Cru, allowing one goal while John Nicknich took the loss for the Comets, making five saves with two goals allowed. UMHB's defense did not allow the Comets a shot in the overtime period.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 14
th in a 7:30 p.m. match at Concordia University Texas in Austin.
