BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team snapped a Concordia Texas six-game win streak Friday evening in Belton, beating the Tornados 3-1. UMHB improved to 15-1 on the season and 10-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados fell to 11-8 overall and 6-3 in league play.
The first set played even with several ties up until the 21
st point when UMHB used a 4-1 rally to seal the set with a 25-22 win. The Tornados took over in the second, cruising to a 25-14 win to even the match at 1-1. UMHB used a strong finish in the third set to take a 25-23 win then sealed the match with a 25-12 fourth set.
Sarah Paolini led the Cru with 12 kills while
Jenna Gillean added nine. UMHB hit .216 in the match, totaling 51 kills on 139 total attacks.
Cory Jo Martin led the Cru with 31 assists while
Miranda Klein added 12. Defensively, Gillean led the Cru with 17 digs while
Haleigh Evans added 16 and
Miranda Klein had 14. Paolini led the defense at the net, going up for five blocks. UMHB totaled 44 assists, five aces and eight team blocks, limiting the Tornados to a .152 hitting percentage.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 6
th in a 2 p.m. match at Southwestern University in Georgetown.
