AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team opened American Southwest Conference play with a 3-0 win over Concordia University Texas Friday night in Austin. The win improved the Cru to 6-1 on the season while the Tornados fell to 5-5.
Both UMHB and the Tornados opened with a strong first set as the Cru edged Concordia Texas 26-24. UMHB took the next two sets with a matching score of 25-21 to earn its first ASC win.
Corinne Novak led the Cru with nine kills while
Kayla Janikula added eight. UMHB totaled 27 kills on 96 attacks.
Cory Jo Martin led the offense with 20 assists while
Miranda Klein added seven. Klein and
Jenna Gillean were powerhouses from the service line and defensively as both recorded four service aces and nine digs. Janikula led defensive efforts at the net, going up for one solo block and four block assists. UMHB limited the Tornados to just 37 kills in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, September 18
th in a 6 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
