ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept McMurry University 3-0 Tuesday evening in Abilene. The win improved the Cru to 11-1 on the season and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the War Hawks fell to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.
UMHB opened with a 3-0 lead in the first set and used an 8-3 run late to secure a lead. UMHB finished that set with a 25-19 win and jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second. The Cru led by five early in the second and sustained a lead throughout the set, taking a 25-22 second-set victory. UMHB trailed early in the third but fought back to tie the set at 10 points then took a lead to secure the match with a 25-21 third set.

Hope Hoelscher and
Jenna Gillean led the Cru with 10 kills each while
Corinne Novak and
Miranda Klein each added seven. UMHB hit .250 in the match, slamming 48 kills on 116 attacks.
Cory Jo Martin anchored UMHB's offense with 33 assists while Klein added 12. Defensively, Novak and Gillean led with 18 digs each. UMHB totaled 46 assists, 51 digs and six team blocks in the match. The Cru limited the War Hawks to a .176 hitting percentage in the match.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, September 28
th in a 6 p.m. match against Howard Payne University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton. The Cru is currently receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. UMHB falls just outside the top 25 in 28
th with 114 total points.
