BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a commanding 6-1 win over Belhaven University Thursday evening in Belton. UMHB improved to 7-2-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Blazers fell to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Steven Dang netted the Cru's opening goal in the seventh minute, scoring off a throw-in from
Nick Villanueva to put the Cru on the board. Nathan Ratzlaff scored the equalizer off a corner kick one minute later for the Blazers to even the game at one. From there, UMHB's offense took over, scoring two more goals in the first half and three in the second. Dang assisted
Patrick Roach's game-winner in the 28
th minute before
Tyler Childs scored an insurance goal for the Cru in the 29
th minute. Roach scored his second goal of the contest one minute into the second half to put the Cru up by three.
Seth Neveloff got in on the action in the 54
th minute, one-touching a cross from
Jason Goodin for the Cru's fifth goal. Dang finished the scoring for UMHB with his second goal of the night in the 74
th minute.
Dang, Childs and Neveloff led the Cru with three shots each while Dang and Roach each had two goals. Villanueva, Goodin, Dang,
Mathew Lay and
Rolando Nieto all recorded assists for UMHB. The Cru outshot the Blazers 19-4 in the contest, putting 14 shots on frame.
Travis Aday earned the win in the net for UMHB, making two saves with one allowed goal. Thomas Blake took the loss for the Blazers, surrendering five goals and making six saves in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 29
th in a 4:30 p.m. match against Louisiana College at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
