JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Belhaven University 3-2 Thursday evening in Jackson.
UMHB outshot the Blazers 5-2 in the first half but neither team was able to score.
Patrick Roach broke the drought in the 48
th minute, scoring off an assist from
Brody Conley for a 1-0 UMHB advantage.
Tyler Childs added a goal for the Cru in the 53
rd minute to extend the lead before the Blazers scored their first goal of the contest in the 55
th minute. Conley found the back of the net in the 67
th minute, extending UMHB's lead to 3-1. Belhaven added one more goal in the 77
th minute but UMHB held on to the 3-2 win.
UMHB totaled 18 shots in the contest, led by
Mathew Lay with three. UMHB put 12 shots on frame and limited the Blazers to just five shots on goal.
Dalton Lloyd earned the win in the net for UMHB, allowing two goals with three saves made. Max Rudolph took the loss for the Blazers, giving up three goals and making nine saves.
The Cru improved to 8-4-1 on the season and 5-2 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. Belhaven fell to 9-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league action. UMHB returns to play on Saturday, October 19
th in a 1:30 p.m. contest at Louisiana College.
