AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball swept LeTourneau University 3-0 in the American Southwest Conference Crossover II Saturday afternoon in Austin.
LeTourneau jumped to an early 6-2 lead in the first set, but UMHB used a 6-0 run to tie the set at 17. UMHB then took a 21-18 lead and held on to win the first set 25-23. UMHB cruised to a 25-18 win in the second and finished off the YellowJackets with a 25-14 win in the third.
Kayla Janikula led the Cru with 15 kills while
Jenna Gillean added 10. UMHB hit .252 in the contest, led by
Cory Jo Martin with 41 assists. Defensively, Gillean recorded 25 digs followed by
Miranda Klein with 18,
Corinne Novak with 16 and
Adrien Valdez with 15. Janikula led the Cru's defensive efforts at the net with four blocks, followed by Martin and
Hope Hoelscher with three each. UMHB totaled 48 kills, 88 digs and seven team blocks while the YellowJackets had 33 kills, 69 digs and six team blocks.
UMHB improved to 18-6 on the season and 12-0 in American Southwest Conference action with the win. The Cru returns to action on Tuesday, October 22
nd in a 6 p.m. match against Southwestern University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
