BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-2 win over Southwestern University Tuesday evening in Belton.
UMHB and Southwestern split the first two sets with UMHB opening the match with a 25-20 win before falling 25-23 in the second set. UMHB used a 5-0 run late in the third set to gain advantage, winning 25-22. Southwestern followed in similar fashion, finishing the fourth set on a 7-2 run to win 25-20. UMHB edged the Pirates 8-7 at the split and held on to take a 15-11 fifth-set win, sealing the 3-2 victory.
Corinne Novak led the Cru with 20 kills while
Jenna Gillean added 16. UMHB totaled 61 kills in the match, hitting .231.
Miranda Klein led the Cru with 48 of UMHB's 58 assists. Defensively, Novak, Gillean and Klein all recorded 23 digs while
Hope Hoelscher added 18 and
Adrien Valdez had 16.
Sarah Paolini was UMHB's defensive leader at the net, putting up seven blocks. UMHB totaled 111 digs and 11 team blocks in the match, limiting the Pirates to a .158 hitting percentage.

th in a 6 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
