BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team beat Hardin-Simmons University 3-1 Friday evening in Belton, snapping a seven-game win streak for the Cowgirls.
UMHB closed the first set with an 8-2 run to take a 25-20 win, then took a 25-18 win in the second. Hardin-Simmons rallied late in the third, using a 10-2 run to take a 27-25 win. UMHB took an early lead in the fourth, then used an 11-2 run late to take the fourth set 25-11.
Jenna Gillean led the Cru with 15 kills while
Sarah Paolini and
Kayla Janikula each added 10. UMHB hit 49 kills on 155 attacks for a .258 percentage in the match.
Miranda Klein led the Cru with 40 assists while
Adrien Valdez led with three aces. Defensively, Gillean led the Cru with 19 digs while Valdez added 18. Paolini led UMHB's defensive efforts at the net, going up for five blocks. UMHB totaled 82 digs and 10 team blocks, limiting the Cowgirls to a .117 percentage in the match.
UMHB improved to 20-6 on the season and 13-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls went to 11-9 overall and 8-5 in league play. The Cru returns to action on Saturday, October 26
th in a 4 p.m. match against McMurry University.
