ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept its fourth consecutive opponent, taking a 3-0 win over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon in Abilene. The win improved the Cru to 8-4 on the season and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first set and led by as many as 11 points in the set. The Cru took the first set 25-13 and jumped to a quick 15-3 lead in the second, winning 25-12 for a 2-0 advantage. UMHB put the Cowgirls away with several offensive surges in the third, winning 25-19 for a 3-0 match victory.
Corinne Novak led the Cru with nine kills while
Miranda Klein and
Jenna Gillean each added seven. UMHB hit .345 in the match with
Cory Jo Martin assisting 24 kills. Defensively, Gillean led the Cru with 13 digs while UMHB totaled 42.
Sarah Paolini led the Cru with four blocks while eight other Crusaders added to the team-total of nine. Hardin-Simmons totaled 29 kills in the match, hitting .062 with 38 digs and one block.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, September 27
th in an 11 a.m. match at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
