BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 15-0 on the season and 10-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in league play.
UMHB used a 7-0 run in the first set to gain a substantial lead and did not let up, cruising to a 25-10 first-set victory. The second set played closely with back-and-forth leads before the 15-15 mark when UMHB used a 6-1 run to lead by five. The Cru finished off the Lobos with a 4-3 swing to win the second set 25-19. UMHB took a commanding 10-4 lead in the third set and did not let up, winning 25-17 to secure the 3-0 match victory.
Kayla Janikula led the Cru with 13 kills while
Hannah Frasca added 11. UMHB hit .366 in the match with 44 kills on 93 total attacks.
Alli Pierce led the Cru with 36 assists while
Alyssa Christiansen added five service aces. Defensively, Janikula and Frasca each recorded three blocks. Christiansen led the Cru with 12 digs, followed by Frasca with nine.
UMHB also honored Janikula, Lauren William and
Kylie Metcalf as members of the 2021 senior class. The Cru returns to action next weekend with a pair of road matches in Abilene.
