BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin Baylor volleyball team clinched their spot in the 2021 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament with a 3-0 win over Sul Ross State University Friday evening in Belton.
UMHB used a 7-1 run in the first to gain a six-point lead before the Lobos fought back. Sul Ross State used a 4-0 run to pull within one point then tied the match at 23.
Hannah Frasca and
Alli Pierce sealed the set for the Cru with back-to-back kills. The second set played evenly before UMHB used a 5-1 run to take a late lead and closed the set on a 3-0 run. The Cru opened the third set at a 3-0 deficit but took a lead with a 4-0 run and never looked back, cruising to a 25-20 win.
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 14 kills while
Kayla Janikula added nine and
Sarah Grace Merry had eight. UMHB hit .305 in the match with
Alli Pierce totaling 37 assists. Defensively,
Maddie Gillispie led the Cru with 15 kills while
Hannah Frasca added 12 and
Sydney Bowen had seven. UMHB totaled 49 digs, limiting the Lobos to an .085 hitting percentage in the contest.
UMHB advances to the championship match and will face the winner of UT Dallas and LeTourneau on Saturday, November 6
th at 2 p.m. in the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
