ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split a Saturday doubleheader at McMurry University, falling 3-0 to the War Hawks before coming from behind to earn a 3-1 win. UMHB moved to 12-2 on the day with the wins while McMurry moved to 11-3.
The War Hawks won the first match 25-19, 25-21, 25-23.
Kayla Janikula led the Cru with 10 kills as UMHB hit 32 kills on 125 total attacks.
Alli Pierce was UMHB's assist leader with 21 while
Hannah Frasca led UMHB's defense with 17 digs. UMHB totaled 66 digs and three service aces in the match. McMurry hit .193 as a team with 43 kills on 135 attacks. The War Hawks also had 64 digs, nine services aces and six team blocks.
McMurry used a 3-1 run to seal the first set of the second match 25-23. UMHB jumped to a 5-0 lead in the second set and did not trail. The War Hawks tied that set at 25 but a kill from
Lauren Williams and an attack error by McMurry gave the Cru its first win of the day. McMurry led the third set 21-15 but UMHB fought back. A pair of kills from
Lauren Williams and Kyleigh Brown put the Cru down by just four before McMurry committed two errors to pull UMHB within two. UMHB pulled to a 25-25 tie and with a pair of kills from
Hannah Frasca and one from Williams UMHB sealed the third set 28-26. The Cru opened the fourth set on a 10-3 run, sealing the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory.
Lauren Williams led the Cru with 14 kills followed by
Kayla Janikula with 12 and
Hannah Frasca with 11. UMHB totaled 51 kills on 188 total attacks.
Alli Pierce was UMHB's assist leader with 40 and also served four aces. Defensively,
Maddie Gillispie led UMHB with 24 digs followed by Pierce with 23 and Frasca with 18. UMHB totaled eight team blocks in the match, led by
Kylie Metcalf with four. UMHB limited the War Hawks to a .103 hitting percentage

rd in a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Concordia University Texas at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
