AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split a pair of matches at Concordia University Texas Tuesday evening in Austin, beating the Tornados 3-1 before taking their first loss of the season at 0-3.
UMHB dropped the first set of the day 20-25 but came back with three straight 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 set-wins to take a 3-1 win in the first match.
Corinne Novak led the Cru with 10 kills followed by
Kayla Janikula and
Hannah Frasca with eight kills each. UMHB hit 44 kills on 160 total attacks for a .200 percentage.
Maddison Heibel led UMHB with 23 assists, followed by
Alli Pierce with 19. Defensively,
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 20 digs, followed by Maddie Gillispe with 13 and Pierce with 11. UMHB had nine total team blocks in the match, led by Janikula with four solo blocks and one block assist. Kylexus Block led the Tornados with 20 kills as Concordia Texas hit 59 kills on 182 total attacks.
Concordia Texas responded in the second match, beating the Cru in straight 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 sets. Novak led the Cru with 11 kills followed by
Sarah Grace Merry and Frasca with six kills each. Pierce led UMHB's offense with 16 assists while Frasca and Gillispie were the defensive leaders with 20 digs and 18 digs respectively. UMHB totaled 32 kills on 130 attacks while the Tornados hit 49 kills on 136 attacks.
The loss ended UMHB's record-setting 52-match conference win streak. The Cru returns to action on Friday, March 12
th in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Sul Ross State University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
