BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team shut out Texas Lutheran University 4-0 in the Cru's 2021 season opener Wednesday evening in Belton.
Brody Conley gave the Cru an early lead in the ninth minute. Conley hit his initial shot off the goalkeeper before slicing a line-drive ricochet into the back of the net to give the Cru a 1-0 lead. UMHB outshot the Bulldogs 4-2 in the first half.
Patrick Roach added an insurance goal for the Cru in the 62
nd minute. Roach headed in a flip-throw from
Nick Villanueva to put the Cru up by two.
Ethan Dacaret scored his first collegiate goal in the 78
th minute before Villaneuva netted UMHB's fourth goal in the 87
th minute.
UMHB outshot the Bulldogs 10-6 in the contest, putting four shots on frame. Roach's goal was his 25
th as a Crusader, making him the Cru's new Division III all-time scoring leader.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 4
th in a 7 p.m. (ET) match at Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania. The Cru will also face Franklin and Marshall on Monday, September 6
th (ET) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania before retuning home for a 7 p.m. match against the University of St. Thomas (Houston) on Saturday, September 11
th.
