Volleyball earns 3-1 win over Sul Ross State

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team took a 3-1 win over Sul Ross State University Tuesday evening in Belton.  The win improved the Cru to 14-6 on the season and 7-4 in league play while the Lobos moved to 7-8 on the season and 3-6 in league action.  

The first set played evenly with neither team leading by more than two points. The set saw nine tied scores until the 19-19 mark when UMHB closed it on a six-point run. Hannah Frasca totaled three kills in the straight to take the first-set victory.
 
The Cru used a 14-1 run to close out the second set with a win. Alyssa Christiansen served 11 straight points in the run with five service aces, putting the Cru ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-12 second-set win.
 
The Lobos responded with a 25-21 win in the third but UMHB fought back hard, cruising to a 25-10 win in the fourth. UMHB opened that set with a 6-1 run and held on, leading by as many as 13 points.
 
Alyssa Christiansen tied the UMHB record for service aces in a game with nine against the Lobos. UMHB totaled 47 kills with a .250 percentage, led by Hannah Frasca with 20. Ella Brunson anchored that offense with 35 assists while Sydney Bowen and Christiansen each added two. Defensively, Christiansen led with 24 digs, followed by Frasca with 15 and Faith Clark and Gracie Nichols with 11 each. UMHB totaled 70 digs and three team blocks in the contest, limiting the Lobos to a .100 hitting percentage in the match.
 
UMHB returns to on Friday, October 14th in a 6 p.m. contest against East Texas Baptist University at Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
