BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team saw another record-setting day for
Kyle King as the senior quarterback threw four touchdowns in UMHB's 45-14 win over Sul Ross State Saturday in Belton.
Johnny Smith-Rider forced a fumble on the Lobos' first play from scrimmage to give the Cru the ball at the Lobo 23.
Anthony Avila capitalized on that field position with a 20-yard field goal to open the contest.
Kyle King followed that with his first touchdown pass of the day, completing a 17-yarder to
Brandon Jordan for a two-score lead. Travell Lumpkin put the Lobos on the board at the end of that quarter with a one-yard punch.
UMHB responded with three second-quarter scores.
Aphonso Thomas ran one in from 15 yards out for a 17-7 advantage before
Kyle King found
Jerry Day, Jr. for 57 yards and another score. King and
Brandon Jordan connected for a four-yard touchdown for the final score of the half, giving the Cru a 31-7 advantage.
King threw his fourth touchdown pass to
Jerry Day, Jr. with 10:55 left in the third. The Lobos found the end zone again at the end of that quarter when Eddie Sinegal caught a tipped ball at the UMHB 4 for a score.
Montana Miller punched in the final score of the game for the Cru with 4:04 left in the contest.
Kyle King completed 19 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns in the game, setting a new program record for touchdown passes in career with 68. Thomas had a 100+ yard day with 121 yards on 13 carries and one score while King added 60 rushing yards on five carries.
Jerry Day, Jr. was the Cru's reception leader, catching seven passes for 150 yards and two scores.
Omari Frazier led UMHB's offense, totaling 10 tackles with 0.5 tackles for loss.
Durand Hill added eight tackles with two pass breakups while
Johnny Smith-Rider had six tackles with one forced fumble and one pass breakup.
Sante Parker, Jr. was dominant on UMHB's front line, totaling five tackles with four tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
K.J. Miller added to his punt return record, returning one kick for 64 yards while
Matthew Jackson added 30 yards in returns. Avila had one field goal for 20 yards and eight kickoffs for 438 yards and two touchbacks.
UMHB also hosted its annual TOUCHDOWNS event with more than 100 athletes running in and scoring touchdowns at halftime. The Cru enjoys a bye week next week and will return to action on Saturday, November 5
th in a 1 p.m. contest at Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
