CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND! Men’s Soccer earns 5-1 win in ASC Semifinal

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 5-1 win in the semifinal round of the 2022 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Thursday in Austin. UMHB advanced to 12-2-2 on the season while the Comets end their season at 9-6-4.
 
Ethan Dacaret took a foul in the box in the 14th minute to create a penalty kick situation for the Cru. Patrick Roach converted that, slicing one past the goalkeeper into the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead. UMHB scored an insurance goal in the 15th minute when Karsen Macias one-touched a cross from Roach for a 2-0 UMHB lead. The Cru added one more goal in the first half when Roach beat the UTD goalkeeper in a one-versus-one and passed the ball to Ethan Dacaret for an empty-net goal. UMHB outshot the Comets 9-6 in the first half with goalkeeper Dalton Lloyd making two saves for the Cru.
 
Dacaret scored his second goal of the game in the 58th minute off a pass from Sawyer Young. UMHB held on to a 4-0 advantage until the 73rd minute when Brandon Buchanan sliced in a shot for the Comets in the 73rd minute. Francisco Maldonado responded five minutes later, winning the ball in the open field, sprinting 40 yards and beating the keeper for an unassisted score.
 
UMHB totaled 16 shots in the contest with 12 on frame. The Comets totaled 17 shots, putting 10 on frame. Maldonado led the Cru with five shots, followed by Nick Villanueva with four. Lloyd made eight saves in the win, allowing one goal in the full 90 minutes.
 
UMHB returns to action in the 2022 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Match on Saturday. The Cru will take on LeTourneau University on November 5th at 3 p.m. That game will be played on the campus of St. Edward's University in Austin.
