Volleyball drops midweek decision at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fell short in a 3-1 loss to Texas Lutheran University Wednesday evening in Seguin. UMHB dropped to 9-6 overall while the Bulldogs moved to 12-4.
 
The Cru started set one and quickly found themselves on the high ground with a four-point run to turn a 5-7 deficit into a 9-7 lead. A quick side out and another run put the Cru at 12-8. The Bulldogs quickly battled their way back into the match with a six-point run, putting TLU on top again at 16-14. Texas Lutheran closed the set with a 5-1 run to earn a 25-21 first-set win. Set two played evenly with several lead swaps, tying the set at 23. The Bulldogs snuck away with two points to earn the win and go up 2-0 in the match. 
 
The third set opened in a heated back-and-forth with multiple ties early on. The battle continued past regulation with a tie at 25-25. Texas Lutheran went up one point before UMHB closed the set with a 3-0 run to earn a 28-26 win in the third. TLU jumped to a 6-3 lead early in the fourth and led by as many as nine. UMHB fought back but could not hang on, surrendering the 25-16 win to the Bulldogs. 
 
Kaylie Vasil and Hannah Frasca both earned double-doubles with 12 kills and 13 digs for Vasil, and 10 kills and 18 digs for Frasca. Both middle blockers Jenci Seahorn and Dravyn Hurd clocked in as the block leaders with five combined blocks. Ella Brunson leads the Cru in assists with 17, while Sydney Bowen put up 11. The Cru also served 12 aces, led by Alyssa Christiansen with four.  
 
UMHB returns to action in an American Southwest Conference road swing this weekend. The Cru takes on Sul Ross State on Friday, September 30th at 5 p.m. before traveling to Howard Payne for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
