Football earns 30+ point win over Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team rolled over Texas Lutheran University Saturday afternoon in Seguin with a 55-21 victory over the Bulldogs. The win improved the Cru to 2-3 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Bulldogs fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.
 
Isaac Phe completed six passes on the Cru's first offensive possession, leading UMHB on a 56-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Day, Jr. The Crusader defense held the Bulldogs to their second three-and-out on the next drive to get the ball back at the UMHB 43-yardline. UMHB was forced into a fourth-and-five on that drive but Jack Bruner faked a punt, rushing 18 yards for a first down. Phe completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Day, Jr. on the next play to put the Cru ahead by two scores.
 
The Cru added one more first-quarter score to close the frame. Phe found Kenneth Cormier, Jr. for 13 yards to open the drive before Cormier rushed for 39 yards two plays later to put the Cru near the goal line. Cormier punched in a one-yard rush on the next play to give UMHB a 21-point lead.
 
UMHB opened the second quarter with another score, driving 80 yards on seven plays with a four-yard touchdown pass from Phe to Will McClintock. Texas Lutheran found the scoreboard with 4:03 left in the quarter on a nine-yard rush from Caden Bosanko. Durand Hill responded for the Cru, returning an interception 65 yards for a touchdown to put UMHB back up by four scores.
 
Phe threw 12 first-half completions for 101 yards. UMHB totaled 244 yards of offense in the first two quarters and gave up just 114 to the Bulldogs.
 
UMHB was forced into a fourth-and-one at the TLU 21-yardline on the opening drive of the third quarter but Phe threw a short completion to Jerry Day, Jr. who ran in 21 yards for his third touchdown of the day at the 10:37 mark. Ozias Wright added one more third-quarter score for the Cru with an 86-yard run at 7:47 left in the third.
 
Jackson Tingler opened the fourth quarter with a five-yard touchdown pass to Christopher Gacayan, putting UMHB up 55-7 with 7:43 to play. Texas Lutheran scored a pair of touchdowns in the final minute of action to end the game at 55-21.
 
Isaac Phe threw 17 completions for 153 yards and four touchdowns while Jackson Tingler added eight completions for 75 yards and a score. Ozias Wright led the Crusader rushing game with 157 yards on eight attempts, while Cormier added 89 yards on nine attempts. Jerry Day, Jr. led UMHB's receiving core with eight catches for 76 yards and a trio of touchdowns. UMHB totaled 522 yards of offense on 62 total plays.
 
Dorian Williams led the UMHB defense with nine total tackles while Trashawn Adams and Durand Hill each added eight. Hill also had a team-high three tackles for loss and one interception. UMHB limited the Bulldogs to just 98 yards passing and 230 total yards in the contest.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 14th in a 1 p.m. contest against Sul Ross State University at Crusader Stadium in Belton.
