BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dropped a one-goal decision to UT Dallas in the 2023 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Semifinals Thursday evening in Belton.
The first half of action played scoreless as UMHB outshot the Comets 5-4 in the half. Goalkeeper Hayden Owens totaled four saves in the first 45 minutes of action to preserve the tie.
Kane Kidwell scored the go-ahead goal for the Comets in the 65th minute, scoring in the far right side off a quick pass from Vaughn Morgan. UMHB fought back, outshooting the Comets 6-5 in the second half but wasn't able to score, falling 1-0.
Ethan Buchanan led the Cru with three shots while Alex Bethke added two. UMHB totaled 11 shots in the contest with one on frame while UT Dallas put eight of their nine shots on goal.
Owens made seven saves in the net for the Cru with one goal allowed while Michael Hesse made one save in the shutout.
UT Dallas advances to the championship match on Saturday, November 4th. The Cru ends their season at 9-5-2 with their third consecutive regular-season title
