ALPINE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over Sul Ross State University Friday evening in Alpine. UMHB closed the regular season with a 26-1 mark and 13-1 record in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos moved to 8-16 overall and 4-11 in league play.
Sul Ross State pulled away in the first set with a 4-0 run before UMHB went on a 7-2 run to take a two-point lead. The Lobos responded with another four-point run but the Cru responded again, using a 9-1 run to close the set with six unanswered points for the 25-18 win.
The second set played back and forth until the Lobos closed the frame with seven unanswered points for a 25-20 win. The third set played closely again but UMHB finished strong, earning a 26-24 win at the end with an 8-1 run to close it. The Lobos fought back in the fourth but UMHB went on a 10-1 run to go ahead by eight, closing the set with a 25-18 fourth-set win.
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 14 kills while
Natalie Hughes added 12. UMHB totaled 49 kills on 149 attacks for a .148 hitting percentage in the match.
Ella Brunson anchored the offense with 25 total assists while
Kendall Harrington added 19. UMHB totaled 11 blocks in the match, led by
Dravyn Hurd with four solo blocks and three block assists. Frasca led the Cru's back court defense with 16 digs, followed by
Maddie Gillispie with 15 and
Caiden Lasala with 14.
UMHB continues action in the 2023 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament November 9
th – 11
th at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton. The Cru earned the regular-season title and right to host the tournament. UMHB will open action in the tournament on Friday, November 10
th.
