BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team cruised to a 65-39 win over University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 17-6 on the season and 12-4 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 8-15 overall and 5-11 in league play.
UMHB opened the game on a 7-2 run, led by
Arieona Rosborough with a game-opening three points. Ozarks cut the gap to one with 5:24 left in the first quarter but the Cru continued to press, going into the second quarter with a 16-12 lead. Baker led the Cru with four points, while Rosborough and
Aja Holmes each added three in the first frame.
The Cru opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run, leading by as many as eight points in the first two minutes. Ozarks fought back and cut the gap to three before a 7-0 run gave UMHB a double-digit lead. UMHB closed out the quarter with a jumper from
Arieona Rosborough, holding the Eagles scoreless for the final 6:57 of the second quarter. Rosborough was the leading scorer in the half with seven points as UMHB shot 35.7 from the field and 85.7 percent from the free throw line.
UMHB outscored the Eagles 20-15 in the third quarter, going into the final frame with a 51-34 advantage. The Cru held Ozarks to just five fourth-quarter points, sealing the 65-39 victory.
Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 15 points, followed by Baker with 10.
Ashley Faux added a team-high ten rebounds as Baker added five assists. UMHB shot 35.1 percent in the contest and limited the Eagles to a 23.8 shooting percentage with just 10 made field goals.
UMHB closes out the regular season next week in a pair of road matches in Abilene. UMHB will play McMurry University on Thursday, February 16
th before taking on Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday, February 18
th.
