Baseball drops doubleheader to Concordia Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped a pair of games to Concordia University Texas Saturday afternoon in Austin. The Cru fell to 0-3 on the season while the Tornados improved to 6-3 overall.
 
Rahul Champaneri opened the game with three shutouts innings on the mound. Concordia Texas got on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI from Aaron Gomez. The Tornados added two more runs in the next inning on a sacrifice and an error. UMHB rallied to even the game in the bottom of the seventh. Sam Muniga hit in Tyler Martin with an RBI single before Drake Herrera scored Ryan Farmer with an RBI. Muniga was the final Crusader to score, reaching on an RBI single from Kaden deBerardinis to even the game at three runs each.  Nicklas Fenner pitched a perfect inning in the bottom of that frame to force extra innings. Concordia Texas earned the win in the bottom of the eight, scoring one run on an RBI double to take the 4-3 victory. 
 
Rahul Champaneri pitched the first four innings for the Cru allowing two earned runs on six hits. Nicklas Fenner pitched in relief, taking the loss on 3.1 innings pitched. Fenner allowed just one run on two hits in his outing.  UMHB outhit the Tornados 9-8, led by deBerardinis and Muniga with two hits each.
 
Concordia Texas opened scoring in the first inning of game two with a sacrifice fly. The Tornados added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning off a pair off an RBI fielder's choice, a passed ball and another sacrifice fly. Concordia Texas tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 6-0 win.
 
James McGlumphy started on the mound for the Cru, throwing five full innings. McGlumphy allowed four runs on four hits with one strikeout. Reid Cromie pitched the final inning for UMHB allowing two runs on two hits. Robert McCall and Staton Dudley each recorded one of UMHB's two hits in the contest.
 
UMHB returns to action in their home opener Tuesday, February 28th in a 6:00 p.m. contest against Texas Lutheran University.
