SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team falls to Our Lady of the Lake University in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in San Antonio.
UMHB was first on the board when
Tyler Betts scored on a
Drake Herrera sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Saints took the lead with a two-run homerun from Noah Rodriguez in the bottom of the second. OLLU added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two RBI double by Caimyn
Holiday followed by another two RBI double from Jackson Kalisky. The Cru tried to rally back in the seventh inning starting with an RBI single to right field from
Warren Sammons to score
Hayden Guerin. In the next at bat
Tyler Martin doubled to right field to bring Sammons home. The Cru were unable to overcome the deficit falling 6-3 to the Saints.
Bryce Farlander took the loss for the Cru, pitching 4.1 innings. He allowed five runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Reid Cromie and
Zach Carroll also made mound appearances for UMHB. Ram Maldonado claimed the win for the Saints, pitching two innings for OLLU, allowing one run on one hit. The Cru recorded five hits with doubles from Betts, Jones and Martin.
The Cru opened the second game with a score by
Hunter Jones on an error in the first inning. UMHB's lead faded quickly as the Saints recorded six runs in the bottom of the second inning. OLLU continued their offensive surge in the third inning adding three more runs to create a 9-0 lead. The Cru defense kept the Saints from getting on base through the final three innings with
Erick Roberts and
Isaac Brann on the mound. UMHB was unable to score again, dropping the game 9-1.
JD Gerda started on the mound for UMHB, taking the loss after allowing four runs on two hits.
Jackson Keenan and
Cameron Bogan both made an appearance for the Cru before Roberts and Brann closed out the final three innings. Donovan Gamez recorded the win for the Saints, throwing two innings with two strikeouts. UMHB recorded three hits, led by
Robert McCall with two.
UMHB returns to action Tuesday, March 14
th in a 6:00 p.m. contest against University of St. Thomas in Houston.
